Venue and travel information

The meeting will be held at Keele University in the sunny "partly cloudy" UK. Keele is a quiet, rural campus about 3 miles from the nearest town (Newcastle-under-Lyme / Stoke-on-Trent), and 35-40 miles from the nearest big cities (Manchester and Birmingham).

The climate in Keele is quite variable, but mid-Summer temperatures are generally between 18 and 25C (i.e. 65-80F).

The workshop will be hosted in the University's new undergraduate Medical School, with en-suite accommodation in the nearby halls-of-residence.

Keele's nearest international airports are at:

  • Manchester (MCR) - approx. 50 minutes by car or train (to Crewe).
  • Birmingham (BHX) - approx. 1 hour by car or train (to Stoke-on-Trent).
  • East Midlands (EMA) - approx. 1 hour by car.
  • Liverpool (JLA) - approx. 1 hour by car or train (to Crewe).
  • London airports, including Heathrow (LHR) / Gatwick (GTW) / Luton (LTN) and Stansted (STN), offer a much wider range of connections, but all involve at least 3 hours travel to Keele (by car or by train to either Crewe or Stoke-on-Trent).

The nearest train stations to Keele are at Stoke-on-Trent and at Crewe. Each station is around a 20 minute cab-ride or a 30 minute bus-ride from Keele. The fastest trains to either Crewe or Stoke from London's Euston station take around 90-110 minutes. Unfortunately, all of these trains will be on a go-slow on July 26, so please allow at least 3 hours to get from London to Keele, and try to enjoy the ride (you'll probably see just about every bit of the UK on your way here!).
